Colorado

Leslie and I had visited Colorado many times, and we finally moved to Golden, Colorado a few years ago. Golden is in the “front range,” just a short drive from some terrific mountain scenery; and from our home base there we traveled to many of Colorado’s scenic places. Here are a few photos that were all taken within 1-1/2 hours from our home.

Aspens with Snow-1.jpg

Aspens

The aspen isn’t the state tree of Colorado, but perhaps it should be. They thrive practically everywhere in the mountains, and they look beautiful in every season. I found this tree on a cold gray winter day in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Garden of the Gods 1.jpg

Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods, in Colorado Springs, is a large public park full of dramatic red rock formations. My photography buddy Don Weaver showed me this sunrise vantage point. To me, it looks like we’re in a sci-fi movie on another planet.

Clear Creek at Night.jpg

Clear Creek

Clear Creek flows through the heart of Golden. It’s a popular spot for kayaking and tubing, and it brings that Rocky Mountain water to the Coors brewery. I shot this long exposure shot one October night under a full moon.

Flatirons1.jpg

Flatirons

These mountains, on the south side of Boulder, are called the Flatirons for obvious reasons. Here, the first light of sunrise is hitting the side of the mountains. I had been out for a while, and my fingers were frozen, when I decided to try for one more shot. Glad I did!

Milky Way from Ramah.jpg

Milky Way, Ramah, CO

We were in a cow pasture (Watch your step!) near the small town of Ramah, which is southeast of Denver. Far from any city lights, the sky was lit with a million stars. This was the first time I had ever seen the Milky Way with my naked eyes. We had one small light on the windmill, and it made for a really nice composition.
